Stock Picks: Is Psilocybin The Next Cannabis?
By September 13, 2018
– Published in onThis year the Extraordinary Future Conference will be showcasing a variety of eSports, blockchain, cannabis, health tech, software, quantum computing and security investment opportunities. But in case you were looking for something else, a little bit more on the fringe… how about psychedelic therapy?
The potential benefits of psychedelic medicines as a treatment for depression, anxiety, PTSD and addiction are now a regular topic for mainstream personalities such Tim Ferris, author of the bestseller, The Four Hour Workweek, and host of iTunes most downloaded podcast, The Tim Ferris Show. Michael Pollan, renowned journalist and best selling author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, recently released his newest best-seller, How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence.
With Cannabis still federally illegal in the US, one could assume that treatments with plants such as psilocybin mushrooms are not even worth considering. However, three weeks ago the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a landmark Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) trial for treatment-resistant depression.
216 patients will participate in a trial across 12-15 research sites in North America and Europe, beginning this month. Federal regulatory agencies have already granted approval for trails in Canada, the U.K. and the Netherlands.
At the Extraordinary Future Conference on September 19 & 20 in Vancouver, we have invited the star of VICELAND’s, “Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia”, Hamilton Morris, for a fireside chat on the future use and application of psychedelic treatments in the US - a concept that could become far more controversial and disruptive than the legalization of cannabis.
If you want to learn more about the impact of psychedelics the upcoming Extraordinary Future 18 is a great place to get in touch with technology. It will feature some of the best minds in tech and will be happening on September 19th and 20th, at the Vancouver Convention Center East.
